Caroline Pidgeon: London women staying at home after giving birth is causing 'brain drain'

A senior London Lib Dem today warned of the “brain drain” of highly qualified women failing to return to work after children because of the high cost and paucity of childcare in the capital. Caroline Pidgeon launched her bid to be the party’s mayoral candidate with a pledge to boost childcare at either end of the day, and to push big business to offer more flexible working. Just 42 per cent of women with children under the age of five are in employment in London, compared with 52 per cent across the rest of the UK.
